With the spring election just over a week away, it's good to
remember a time-honored adage.
All politics is local.
The race for president in 2008 might have captured the national
news because of historic precedents of whether we elect the first
African-American, first woman or the oldest president when first
inaugurated. But in Milwaukee, there's history waiting to be made in
several April Fools' Day contests.
Louis Butler can become the first African-American judge elected
to the state Supreme Court (he was appointed in 2004 to finish out
Diane Sykes' term). State Sen. Lena Taylor could be the first woman
and first African-American to win election to Milwaukee County
