A westcountry assault ship has returned home from a major Arctic
exercise after operating in sub-zero temperatures.
Amphibious assault ship HMS Bulwark, based at Devonport, sailed
home a day early to avoid the incoming bad weather and arrived at
her Plymouth base late on Wednesday night.
She has been at sea for several weeks, sailing to northern
Norway to conduct exercise Armatura Borealis with other members of
Plymouth-based 3 Commando Brigade.
In total, more than 4,000 sailors and Royal Marines took part in
the exercise. for many, it was their first exposure to operating in
such extreme sub-zero conditions.
