Article: Discovering the Tradewinds Children's museum renovating for new exhibit

BANGOR - Workers on Monday began demolishing portions of the second floor of the Maine Discovery Museum to make way for the first major renovation and new exhibit in seven years.

Later this spring, the space now occupied by the popular Passport exhibit will house a new one called Tradewinds.

"It's our first new major exhibit since we opened seven years ago," Jennifer Chiarell, the museum's marketing director, said Monday.

"It's been several years in the making," Chiarell said of the new exhibit, which is scheduled to open in early May.

In addition, the World Diner, a longtime favorite among the museum's young patrons, is going to be transformed into an Italian restaurant.
