DAYTON -- Ted Kissell still is hoping the University of Dayton
men's basketball team can squeak into the NCAA tournament. But even
if that doesn't happen, the UD athletic director sees some madness
in the Flyers' March, saying they're likely to end up with an NIT
home game Wednesday, March 19.
The NIT will have a 32-team field, and ESPN will broadcast every
game in the tournament, which begins Tuesday at campus sites.
The new College Basketball Invitational will have a 16-team field
and compete with the NIT for the schools left out of the NCAA
tourney, but Kissell thinks that event will need time to gain
traction.
