Phoenix -- Knowing that he'd be serving a 25-game suspension to
start the season, new Milwaukee Brewers centerfielder Mike Cameron
sat down for a chat with Tony Gwynn Jr. at the start of spring
training.
"I just told him, 'This is a great opportunity. Take it and run
with it,' " Cameron recalled.
Gwynn obviously took that bit of advice to heart. With just a few
days remaining in camp, it seems clear that he has earned the right
to see most of the action in center in the absence of Cameron, who
must sit out after testing positive for a banned stimulant last
season.
In 19 games, Gwynn is batting .400 with an outstanding .462 on-
