Article: 'THEY KILLED SISTER DOROTHY' ; DOCUMENTARY ABOUT SLAIN ACTIVIST WINS TWO AWARDS AT SxSW FILM FEST

"They Killed Sister Dorothy," a film about Daytonborn Sister Dorothy Stang, won both the grand jury and audience awards for best documentary at the 2008 South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas.

The feature documentary by Denver, Colo., filmmaker Daniel Junge made its world premiere at SxSW, which ran March 7-15.

Stang, an advocate of Brazil's Amazonian people and rain forests, was slain in February 2005. A rancher was convicted in May 2007 of ordering Stang's murder.

Junge first read about Stang's death in the New York Times. He then contacted Dayton Daily News reporter Mary McCarty to ask if anyone from Stang's family was traveling to Brazil to investigate the death.
