Article: Oklahoma Supreme Court backs down on court records policy

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma Supreme Court Tuesday backed off of its new policy banning the posting of court documents on the Internet and requiring removal of identifying information from court filings.

In a brief order from the office of Chief Justice James Winchester, the court said the earlier Privacy and Public Access Order was withdrawn to allow time for more study and consideration of the issue.

"We are cognizant that many businesses and individuals rely on the information court clerks have placed on our Web site," the court said. "Personal privacy balanced with reliable public information is critical for every free society."
