In Bergmann's first inning of 2007, he threw 50 pitches against
the Arizona Diamondbacks en route to walking six men in a loss. In
his next seven starts, he struck out 41 men in 451/3 innings, held
opponents to a .146 batting average and posted a 2.18 ERA -- and
nearly no-hit the Braves. But he came down with an elbow problem
that cost him more than a month, and when he returned, he wasn't the
same; his ERA the rest of the season was 5.70. "We hope he's
somewhere in between those two," Manny Acta said. That would help
Bergmann become a fixture in the Washington ...
