George Krawiec - the man behind the transformation of North East Lincolnshire Council - is leaving, the Telegraph can reveal.

The chief executive, who presided over the biggest investment process in the borough's history, is retiring at the end of next month, after three-and-a-half years at the helm of NELC.

Today, the 57-year-old told the Grimsby Telegraph: "It has been the most challenging job I have ever had to do. We have turned the authority round. Whomever succeeds in the role will have a solid base from which to start.

"I said from the start I was coming for four years. It is now time to leave.

"If I were to stay it would need to be as a chief executive who would stay for another ...
