WESTMINSTER: The high number of junk food outlets located near
London's schools has been revealed today by a government watchdog.
The School Food Trust said that in parts of the city secondary
schools are surrounded by more than 80 sweetshops and takeaway
restaurants which "made a mockery" of efforts to get children to eat
more healthily.
The SFT, set up to enforce school nutrition rules drawn up after
Jamie Oliver's campaign, wants councils to refuse licences for fast-
food outlets near schools, following the example of Leicester which
is banning burger and ice cream vans from parking up near the city's
primaries and ...
