Q.How do I insulate my 30-month-old son from my husband's
spanking? He says that spanking is his right and his responsibility
and he won't budge on the issue.
I protect my son as best I can, but I can't control what my
husband does when I'm not in the room, nor do I know how we can
raise a child together when we disagree on something so fundamental.
My husband and I were both spanked as children -- it was the
principal method of discipline used by our parents -- and I never
really thought about it until we had a child of our own. Suddenly we
had to make a lot of decisions about child-rearing and I realized
