Dutch researchers crack chip in access cards to government buildings

BRUSSELS, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Dutch researchers have successfully hacked the codes in some key cards giving access to commercial and public buildings in the Netherlands, Dutch paper De Volkskrant reported Thursday.

Dutch Minister of Home Affairs Guusje ter Horst told parliament on Wednesday that at least two million such key cards are relatively easy to copy, according to researchers from the Radboud University Nijmegen.

The hacked Mifare Classic chip is also used in the Dutch public transport pass, or OV chip card, which is due to come into operation throughout the Netherlands in January 2009.
