EU urges Italy to prevent spread of dioxin-contaminated mozzarella cheese

BRUSSELS, March 27 (Xinhua) -- The European Commission on Thursday urged Italy to take further urgent measures to prevent dioxin-contaminated mozzarella cheese from entering other European Union (EU) countries.

The Italian authorities have informed the commission that the dioxin problem has been contained in the Campania region of Italy and that no mozzarella cheese containing higher than the permissible levels of dioxins has been traded outside Italy, said a commission spokeswoman on Thursday.
