After a 20-year wait Staverton has at long last got a 30 mph
speed limit in the village.
But parish councillors say it is merely a token gesture and does
not cover the most dangerous roads where drivers regularly travel
much too fast.
Devon County Council has erected signs in the village centre but
they apply only to a stretch of just over 200 yards, on either side
of the Sea Trout inn.
"Totally inadequate," protested parish council chairman Pat
Tucker. "There are other dangerous traffic spots in the parish,
notably in Landscove, at Woolston Green, Memory Cross and
Hillcroft, but the county council say they haven't the funds to put
signs there and don't agree they should have priority.
