Howard County grew despite the sluggish national economy, with new
jobs added during the past year, new offices planned and unemployment
remaining low, County Executive James N. Robey (D) said in his annual
State of the County address last week.
The county's office space vacancy rate fell from a high of 24
percent in 2002 to the current rate of 15.3 percent, Robey said.
Unemployment declined from a high of 3.3 percent last year to 2.5
percent in November, he said.
"These numbers are significant," Robey said in his address Friday.
"They tell me that the private sector is healthy and thriving."
