Article: Paper ballots more expensive, less than 500 used

WOOSTER -- Responding to a directive from the secretary of state and a poll about how many people would use paper ballots, the Wayne County Board of Elections spent an extra $7,800 to have 22,000 paper ballots on hand for the March 4 primary.

Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, who wants to abandon touch- screen voting machines, required boards of elections to have paper ballots equal to 10 percent of the highest voter turnout for a similar election.

Board of Elections Director Patty Johns said the county was prepared to print 15,000 paper ballots, but decided to increase the amount after reading a poll in The Columbus Dispatch that showed 54 percent of ...
