The work on the Victoria Street - on the doorstep of Northern
Ireland's biggest shopping development - yesterday afternoon led to
long tailbacks and lengthy traffic queues, leaving outraged
motorists asking why the road was being dug up at the same time as
thousands of shoppers surged into the centre for its first Sunday
opening.
As traffic ground to a standstill at Victoria Street, the PSNI
was forced to issue a warning to motorists to expect long delays
because of the roadworks and police officers had to be drafted in to
help control the heavy traffic.
Some motorists claimed to have been stuck in traffic jams for up
to 40 minutes as they made their way towards the Victoria Square car
park.
