More viewers show up when North Carolina plays a big game on
national television and that explains why the Tar Heels' game
against Kansas was chosen for the more attractive late-game time
slot when CBS-TV airs the two national semifinal men's basketball
games Saturday.
Memphis and UCLA were chosen to play the early game in San
Antonio, which tips off at 5:07 p.m. Central, followed by the Tar
Heels and Jayhawks, 40 minutes after the conclusion of the first
game.
The president of CBS News and CBS Sports, Sean McManus, said
Monday that the decision on the order of games was "basically a
group decision" between McManus, executive vice president Tony
Petitti and senior vice president Mike Aresco.
