Feeding children organic produce is "far less important" than
giving them plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, according to a
leading expert.
Lord Krebs, former head of the Food Standards Agency, has warned
that parents were becoming "deeply confused" about how to provide a
healthy diet for their families.
The market for organic food reached more than pounds2 billion
last year, with most consumers from households with children under
the age of 15. An average of pounds37 million is spent each week on
organic produce, mostly in the South East.
The South West is the largest producer of organic produce - about
a quarter of all the UK sector's growers are based in the region.
