Chadian president pardons jailed French humanitarian workers

N'DJAMENA, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Chadian President Idriss Deby Itno Monday officially pardoned the six French nationals who are serving jail sentences in France for attempting to smuggle 103 children out of Chad, according to official sources.

"A presidential pardon has been accorded to the six French members of the Zoe's Ark humanitarian agency," the Chadian president said in a decree issued in N'Djamena.

After being convicted and sentenced by a Chadian court, the six humanitarian workers were transferred to France where they are serving an alternative sentence of eight years in prison for their respective roles in the child ...
