Milwaukee Public Schools was one of 17 urban districts listed
with a graduation rate below 50% in a report released Tuesday by
America's Promise Alliance, an organization aimed at promoting
solutions to problems affecting America's youth.
MPS was listed as having a graduation rate of 46.1%, based on
data from the 2003-'04 school year. That put MPS in 38th place among
the 50 largest districts in the nation. Detroit was at the bottom of
the list with a graduation rate of 24.9%, with Indianapolis,
Cleveland and Baltimore coming in between 30% and 40%.
