Members and friends of Leek Historical Society enjoyed a
'virtual' cruise on the Caldon Canal, when Joan Bennett shared her
enthusiasm for and photographs of trips down the Caldon with a large
audience.
She and her husband John regularly tour the waterways of England
in a narrowboat, but it's the Caldon which is just about their
favourite cut.
From Etruria to Froghall might take 16 hours in theory, but in
practice the 22 miles, 17 locks and at least two tunnels, take
several days. "Too many bends," says Joan, "to allow rapid
progress". But why go quick when there is so much to see and
appreciate?
