Article: Braintree man gets 20 years in prison for necktie attack

NEWBURYPORT - A Braintree man has been sentenced to 20 years in state prison for trying to strangle a North Shore woman with a necktie.

An Essex County Superior Court jury on Wednesday found John Carey Jr., 48, guilty of attempted murder, home invasion, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery.

Carey was acquitted of another assault and battery charge.

During sentencing Thursday, Judge Richard Welch told Carey that "nobody in their home should ever be subjected to this kind of treatment," according to the Salem News.
