* "Monday Night Mayhem" (2001), 9 and 11:05 p.m., TNT: The behind-
the-scenes story of ABC's "MondayNight Football" is a yarn about TV
executives who wanted tostir up controversy with outrageous
commentary in hopes of enticing viewers to NFL football during prime
time. They assemble a broadcast team that includes the loquacious
Howard Cosell (John Turturro), gritty Don Meredith (Brad Beyer)
andbumbling mistake-making Frank Gifford (Kevin Anderson). In the
1970s, the threesome accomplished ABC's goals with their philosophy
to "tell it like it is." Priceless are the re-enactments of the
inside-the-booth shenanigans -- celebrity visitors, Cosell's razor-
sharp comebacks and the boozing.
