Gig Harbor scenic Seattle getaway
GIG HARBOR, Wash. -- Mainland traffic funnels onto a slender
suspension bridge spanning the Tacoma Narrows. It is forced to slow,
literally and figuratively, as it makes the passage from the crowded
city of Starbucks and Nordstrom to the rural land of Lewis and Clark
on Puget Sound's opposite shore.
On a trek through the Pacific Northwest, most vacationers set
aside several days for Seattle, the territory's scenic and cultural
centerpiece. Few schedule in the Kitsap Peninsula, where time has
been suspended much like the bridge connecting the two coasts. Gig
Harbor is the first byway beyond the bridge on the peninsula's
