effort The city of El Segundo will receive $50,000 in grant money
from the state aimed at retaining the Los Angeles Air Force Base in
town, Gov. Gray Davis'soffice said Wednesday.
The state distributed a total of $350,000 in Defense Retention
Grants to California cities to assist communities affected by
potential military base downsizing and closures.
The base, home to the Air Force's Space and Missile Systems
Center, is in the process of consolidating its operations into one
