Finding The Fort MacArthur Museum in San Pedro isn't easy. The 88-
year-old fort, once a U.S. Army post commissioned to protect the
skies over Los Angeles, was strategically built into the back side of
the hill in Angels GatePark, so it's not readily visible until you're
practically on top of it.
Aside from a small sign on Gaffey Street, the only other clue to
the museum's location is a sign on Paseo del Mar, the quiet two-lane
road that winds along the cliffs at the edge of the continent -- not
exactly prime advertising space.
But by the end of May, the old fort will be a lot easier to find
by night, from all over the Southland.
