Here's to having a 33 1/3 rpm consciousness in a CD world
I once wrote an angry column decrying compact disc technology,
swearing that I wouldn't be fleeced by this latest version of the 8-
track tape, this newest way to get me to buy new copies of albums I
already owned on vinyl.
The infidels would have me forsake what I loved for its auditory
warmth and loved because I already owned so much of it. I had my
Allman Brothers and McCartney, Beatles and Stones, Beethoven, Bach,
Joplin and Vivaldi, Shostakovich, Shadows and Springsteen, Michael
Franks, U2, Pretenders and B-52s. I already paid for Chick Corea and
Fred Neil singing "Everybody's Talking." I have John Coltrane and
Wilhelm ...
