Former USC star, coach Goux dies

Marv Goux, a former USC star football player who later became an assistant coach forthe Trojans, has died. He was 69.

Goux died Saturday in Los Angeles of cancer, the university said in a statement.

Goux, who played offense and defense at USC in 1952, '54 and '55, played in two Rose Bowls and twice won the Davis-Tesche award as the team's most inspirational player.

After earning his degree in physical education in 1956, Goux became the head football coach at Carpinteria High before returning to USC in 1957 as the freshman coach.
