It would be unconscionable to judge ABC's new late-night talk show, "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" after one week.

Two nights are plenty.

Jimmy Kimmel, a comedian best known for celebrating arrested male development on Comedy Central's "The Man Show," can be quite funny. But his suburban slacker humor works best outside the constraints of a conventional network talk-show format. Naturally ABC has given him a conventional network talk-show format.

Kimmel is trying to draw the kind of guests popular with his young, mostly male fans _ rappers, athletes and the Rock, the Smackdown! wrestler _ with an antiquated talk-show technique that is not his forte: conversation.
