SPECIAL TO RAVE!
In the beginning, there were mountains and beaches and deserts and
American Indians and, a little later, some scattered Spanish villages
and orange groves.
Then urbanity and suburbanity connected the villages, turning Los
Angeles into a sprawling metropolis dominated artistically by the
entertainment industry.
But it wasn't until the 1984 Olympic Arts Festival that Los
Angeles and its surrounding communities discovered a new world of
cutting-edge performing arts. They liked what they saw, but they
weren't able to sustain it. Until maybe now, nearly 20 years later.
Today, seemingly all of a sudden, theater, dance, music and
strange hybrids thereof are cropping up all over the ...
