Article: Reader should walk a mile in mom's shoes

Dear Annie:

I read the letter from "Dirty Shoes in Canada," whose mother-in- law kept her shoes on and tracked dirt into the house. She also put her feet up on the sofa. She didn't do either of these things at the other daughter-in-law's home. You said that unless it was a local custom, people were not expected to remove their shoes, and suggested she offer her mother-in-law some soft slippers instead.

"Dirty Shoes" should be aware that some people must leave their shoes on at all times in order to walk. Since I was 35 years old, I have been forced to wear orthopedic shoes with custom-made inserts.
