\STLrave \STLadi Though it's been 40 years since Anthony Burgess wrote A Clockwork Orange, his depiction of an ever-increasing violent society and our desensitization to seeing acts of brutality remains a relevant cult classic _ thanks, greatly, to Stanley Kubrick's 1971 film version.

But for decades, the English author was disappointed that American readers and movie-going audiences weren't familiar with his complete text, because his last chapter was deleted from the U.S. release and the screenplay.

So in 1987, Burgess _ who expressed overall dissatisfaction with Kubrick's film _ adapted his novel for the stage, with his unfamiliar, to Americans, ending.
