Put a few scoops of ice cream in a tall container, add flavored
syrup and a little milk, then blend. What's so hard about that?
"We make a wonderful milkshake," says Luanne Carey of the Maid-
Rite diner in Peoria, Ill. "We make ours really thick, I think that's
the key to a really good milkshake."
Wrong, says Gary Carlson, a jeweler who is, apparently, as
persnickety about milkshakes as he is about diamonds.
"The best milkshake is thin and vanilla. It's got to be real thin,
soupy almost. That's the only way it tastes good. Otherwise you get a
headache trying to suck it through the straw."
Whether it's thick or thin is a matter of personal preference,
