Article: Making history | San Pedro High School class grows in popularity

Standing in front of his class, holding up a copy of San Pedro: A Pictorial History, Pete Manghera pointed to pictures of Don Jose Diego Sepulveda and Maria Francisca Elizalde De Sepulveda, a couple whose family once owned most of what is now the South Bay.

Manghera went on to explain the Sepulveda's importance in shaping San Pedro and the port area.

As Manghera asked for questions, one student blurted out, "Which one is the wife? They both look like the husband."

The lesson seemed lost on the students initially, but for the rest of the class, a hushed reverence fell upon the room as students listened attentively to Manghera explain the origins of San Pedro street names, how ...
