There was a time when you couldn't find a lower-tech industry than
public relations counseling. It was a fraternity of which I was, in
fact, perhaps the most backward of Neanderthals. Of course, armed
with IBM Selectrics, carbon paper and an Addressograph, we thought we
were riding the crest of sci-fi.
But fast forward to the current challenge faced by what industry
monitor Jack O'Dwy says is a swollen army of 350,000 PR professionals
inhabiting more than 7,000 consulting agencies and more than 20,000
