You hook up to the telephone chat room, and the conversation flows
from profane to ridiculous.
There's talk of Johnnie Cochran's death. Graphic sexual
invitations. People singing silly children's songs. Others rapping.
Many simply flirting.
But now Chicago Police are growing concerned that girls and women
are easy prey in telephone chat rooms as detectives investigate two
rapes that might have happened after victims made connections on the
party lines.
"The girls are immature. They got on these chat lines, talk to
these guys, not realizing the danger they are putting themselves in,"
Area 2 Violent Crimes Detective Jeff Roberts said Wednesday. "[The
operators] are within their legal business ...
