Article: IMPACT Protests cost small businesses and agriculture, but variables make it hard to nail down a figure

As workers returned to their jobs and students to classes, economists and school officials said Tuesday that one day was not enough time for the "Day Without Immigrants" to do more than send a political message about the contributions of foreign-born labor in California.

While scores of small businesses and the state's agricultural industries took a hit Monday as tens of thousands of mostly Latino workers attended massive protest marches, few experts even tried to tally the action's financial impact, saying there were too many unknown variables.
