Monica Bender squeezed out the oil paint from tubes onto a glass
surface, almost as if she were putting toothpaste on a brush. She
then rolled out the lemon and lime colored paint on the glass in even
patches.
Finally, the 11-year-old rolled the paint across an A-shaped card
with letters scratched onto the surface: "Happy Birthday Aimee."
"You express your feelings during art," Monica said later. "If you
feel sad and moody, you do dark colors. If you feel happy, you do
light colors in printing."
Monica's sister Erica, 13, had used purple and blue, blending the
colors into a night blue.
"You get to draw what you want," Erica said.
