3 locations fail health standards
Dockweiler, Cabrillo and the Redondo Beach pier are among the
latest round of beaches that violated federal health limits on
bacteria this week, according to Heal the Bay.
The environmental group is putting a spotlight on such violations
because the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board let pass
a July 15 deadline that was to be the starting point for fining
jurisdictions that allowed certain bacterial violations in the
summer.
Contact with water with high bacterial counts puts swimmers,
surfers and other beachgoers at risk for respiratory infections,
rashes and gastrointestinal illness.
