I used to commute to work at Larchmont and Melrose, just below
Hollywood, 45 minutes in the morning and a good hour in the evening.
Quite often I would see this guy in a restored, 1950s-vintage, blue
and white Corvette. Its license plate read "I WAS 11".
It made me remember the things I was stoked on when I was 11: the
Dodgers and Maury Wills, the '57 Ford Fairlane's cool tailfins, Davey
Crockett's coonskin cap -- and surfing.
As I looked back over the e-mails people have sent me since May
19, when we launched this column, stoke was the word that came up.
