Article: Real estate funds aren't going down with the rest of the industry

NEW YORK -- While some homeowners have been wringing their hands, agonizing over a cooling real estate market, they might be surprised to see that real estate funds are on track to top the market for the seventh year in a row.

So far this year, real estate funds are up about 22.16 percent, and they were up about 8.37 percent in the third quarter, according to Lipper Inc., which tracks funds.

For the past five years, the return is about 22.13 percent.

"I think for many investors it's a puzzle because they see that the housing market is softening," said Jeff Tjorne- hoj, a senior researcher at Lipper.
