* You say you're not influenced by all those misleading,
inflammatory campaign ads? Well, somebody surely is. The Center for
Responsive Politics looked at House races going back to 1972 and
found that the candidate in each race who spent the most advertising
dollars won 92 percent of the time, hitting 98 percent in recent
years. In Senate races since 1996, the biggest spender won 89 percent
of the time.
