The chickens at St. Andrew's United Methodist Day School didn't
end up on the dinner table after all.
Instead, they are clucking and crowing and laying eggs at the
Edgewater school.
The chickens are being raised by middle-schoolers in Club Pollo,
an afterschool activity to help the kids learn hands-on lessons
about agriculture and the environment.
Science teacher James Roberson intended Club Pollo to be a
semester-long activity, and when winter break came, the chickens
were supposed to go to new homes or the slaughterhouse.
All along, the kids weren't thrilled about their chickens being
turned into sandwich patties. After caring for the birds since they
