Derby concert-goers will have the chance to meet one of today's
leading composers when Judith Weir comes to the Assembly Rooms.
Sinfonia Viva and soloist Lauma Skride perform her Piano
Concerto, in a programme that also includes music by Haydn and
Beethoven. If you've not heard any of Judith Weir's music before,
here's a chance to sample one of the most attractive and original
voices in contemporary music.
Her outstanding contribution to British musical life was
acknowledged by the award of the Queen's Medal for Music in November
last year and by a weekend festival of her music in London in
January organised by the BBC.
