Gov. Tim Kaine and General Assembly leaders met privately
Wednesday to discuss the state's transportation funding problems,
but reached no agreement on how far lawmakers should go to fix them
in a special session later this spring.
Kaine has indicated he will call a special session in late May or
early June to deal with transportation funding, an issue largely
triggered by a Virginia Supreme Court ruling in February that
invalidated regional tax-collecting authorities in Northern Virginia
and Hampton Roads. The authorities were key components of a
compromise transportation funding bill passed last year.
