Q: Former presidents
On Page A8 of the Dec. 27 Daily Breeze, I saw the picture of the
five former presidents in 1991. Was this the first time to have five
former presidents alive or has this happened before a long time ago?

At the time that picture was taken at the 1991 opening of the
Reagan Presidential Library, four of the five men pictured -- Reagan,
Carter, Ford and Nixon -- were former presidents and one, George H.W.
Bush, was the current president.
But there have been three times when five former presidents have
been alive.
When Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated as the 16th president March
4, 1861, former Presidents Martin Van Buren (eighth), John Tyler
(10th), ...
