Article: Glaus hoping he can return in stretch run

Troy Glaus said his determination to play the most meaningful games with the Angels in September and October prompted his decision on Monday to undergo what might be season-ending shoulder surgery on Friday.

Speaking with the media one day after he dropped the bomb on his teammates, Glaus said he has experienced increasing pain in his shoulder since aggravating the old injury while diving for a ground ball 2 1/2 weeks ago in Minnesota.

"The hope is to be back in September," Glaus said. "I made the decision to do it right now so when the team goes down the stretch and into the playoffs, I'll be ready to play.

"It comes down to a pain issue and the issue of injury. I need to get it fixed."
