Article: Old Cockatoo Inn may be history

Part of Hawthorne's venerable but vacant and crumbling Cockatoo Inn would be demolished and part preserved under plans that a pair of local developers have filed at City Hall.

Inglewood-based developers Mohammad Pournamdari and David Golban initially wanted to save the entire 220-room, two-building complex southeast of Hawthorne Boulevard and Imperial Highway, records show, but a study concluded that would be financially unfeasible. The company that performed the economic analysis, Fowler & Spurrier Consulting of Biloxi, Miss., recommended restoring 100 rooms, razing 127 and building 200 new ones to create a 300-room hotel that would bear a nationally known name.
