A: Now is the time to savor the tangy flavor of green tomatoes,
which are harvested before they turn red, either in anticipation of
the first frost or because the gardener just can't wait for a taste.
If you don't have tomatoes growing in your back yard, you can find
them at most farmers markets.
Green tomatoes have a heartiness that holds up nicely when
simmered, sauteed, pickled or, of course, fried. Tomatoes start out
